Perspective | Strengthening Global Alliances: RESHAPE Consortium Advances Planetary Wellbeing and Digital Pedagogy in Finland and Sweden
Between May and June 2026, international delegates from the Regenerating Socio-cultural Sustainability and Planetary Wellbeing in Higher Education: Global Partnership (RESHAPE) Project completed a series of academic activities and institutional visits in Finland and Sweden.
The collaborative initiative serves as a global platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and the development of sustainable, digitalized learning environments to address public health and climate challenges.
Advancing Regional Sustainability and Management in Turku, Finland
The consortium activities commenced at Turku University of Applied Sciences on June 1, 2026. The opening sessions featured presentations on regional climate scenarios by the Turku Climate Team. Delegates also participated in a field study to the Biodiversity Park to observe practical applications of planetary wellbeing frameworks in climate mitigation and ecosystem balance.
Subsequent workshops focused on project governance, financial reporting and pedagogical innovation. The programme in Turku concluded with a facility tour of the Simulation Center, Medisiina and the Multisensory Research Space Aistikattila®, an environment designed to foster interactive and experiential learning.
Digitalization, Sustainability and Institutional Synergy in Gävle, Sweden
At the University of Gävle, representatives presented institutional profiles and overviews of digital learning systems currently being implemented at their universities. Key themes included green campus development, community-based research and digital infrastructure.
The consortium also explored the university’s specialized digital studio, AI Room and exploratory lab to learn about modern media production and interactive educational tools. A field visit to Andersberg provided an opportunity to explore community-based research and university-community partnerships.
